| Goodyear - In 1839 Charles Goodyear discovered how to cure rubber with heat, a process he called vulcanization. In 1898 Frank Seiberling founded the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, and chose the name "Goodyear" to honor Charles Goodyear. When Henry Ford's Model T was introduced in 1908, it was fitted with Goodyear tires. By 1916 Goodyear was the world's biggest tire company. The wingfoot trademark dates to the earliest years of the company, and in 1917, using Packards and other trucks, Goodyear established the Wingfoot Express truck line to demonstrate the quality of its pneumatic cord tires. |
