| Socony-Vacuum - In 1911 a Supreme Court ruling broke up John D. Rockefeller's Standard Oil Trust into several separate companies. The newly independent Vacuum Oil Company registered a white Pegasus as a trademark in South Africa. In 1920 the Standard Oil Company of New York (SOCONY) used a red Pegasus to promote its fuel in Japan and Indonesia. When the two companies merged in 1931 to form the Socony-Vacuum corporation, a newly redesigned red Pegasus was adopted as a worldwide trademark. |
