| Wills Sainte Clair was the brainchild of Childe Harold Wills, so named because his mother was a great admirer of Byron. After becoming a millionaire working for Ford, Wills struck out on his own. He had a factory built on the banks of the Saint Clair River, added final E's to the name for class, and sold his first cars in 1921. The cars were excellent and expensive, but Wills was too much of a perfectionist for his own good. He often shut down production to make improvements, and never made enough cars to earn a profit. By 1927, the Wills Sainte Claire Company faded away, leaving behind a production of 12,107 fine cars in seven years, and its distinctive Canada Goose trademark. |
